Ice Fishing the Fort Qu’Appelle Lakes

If you are planning a ice fishing trip this winter, booking in with us at Valley Cabin Rentals is a smart bet for a great trip. Here’s why:

The area around Fort Qu’Appelle, features 4 lakes within a short drive of each other known as the “Calling Lakes” (Pasqua, Echo, Mission, and Katepwa) all joined together by the Qu’Appelle River. Our location in the Fort Campground is in the centre point of these 4 lakes.

These lakes are already well-known as a popular ice-fishing destination. Partly because of their accessibility in southern Saskatchewan and partly because of the wide variety of fish species known to be active in the waters.

  • Walleye
  • Northern Pike
  • Yellow Perch
  • Whitefish
  • Burbot
  • Ciscoes
  • Channel Catfish

Ice Fishing Season

Depending on weather and ice conditions the local ice fishing season is approx three months long (mid-December to mid-March).

It is extremely important to make sure that the ice is safe and thick enough before walking or driving on it. Ice thickness depends on the particular water body and the local conditions. Please read this guideline for more information: Protect Yourself To Ensure Safety On Ice This Winter

Local Ice Fishing Regulations

Ice Fishing in Saskatchewan is regulated by the provincial government and you are required to purchase a license prior to going out on your fishing trip. The regulations have catch limits, season opening and closing dates, regional rules, and some rules specific to ice fishing. We recommended reading up on this information before planning your trip.
